Garage Door Pressure Sensor

Garage door openers manufactured after 1993 include sensors to prevent a door from closing on a child or pet.

These sensors are not door openers or closers though. The second line of defense is a set of infrared sensors which should be mounted 4 to 6 above the floor on each side of the garage door frame. That s a job for the powerful motorized mechanisms. Refer to the owner s manual to determine which is which.

If any object blocks the path of the infrared sensors the garage door opener will not activate or will reverse if operating. The adjustment for the opener will. Again if someone or something contacts the sensor the door stops closing and pulls away. Sensing edges provide entrapment protection for motor operated doors by offering an auto reverse or auto stop feature.
