The first step is to locate the emergency release and disengage it do it only if the garage door is completely closed.

This is frustrating especially if you re trying to get your car out of the garage.
This indicates that something in the opener system has malfunctioned.
They can hear the motor going but the door itself is not opening.
Disengage the door from the trolley by pulling the emergency cord if none of the basic checks reveals a simple explanation for why the door won t open.
This will determine if the issue is connected to the door itself or the opener.
If so loosen the chain adjuster until it is no longer jammed against the bolt run the opener down a few inches and then unplug it.
Try to open the door manually.
